listen to your heart?

Do you follow your head or your heart? This sher has some advice about that eternal tension.

achchha hai dil ke saath rahe paasbaan-e-aql
lekin kabhi kabhi ise tanhaa bhi chhoR de

Following is a rough translation

it is good that the guard of intellect stays with the heart
but sometimes leave the heart alone

This sher is by Allama Iqbal (b. 1877)

A friend uses this sher as justification for giving in to temptation at every occasion. Don’t do that. The sher does say “kabhi kabhi“, which means on rare occasions.
